Biao Gong is a Senior Vice President in the Energy and Project Finance group at DBRS, where he covers the project finance, power & utilities and pipeline sectors. His main responsibilities include assigning and updating credit ratings for energy-related projects, revising and implementing project finance methodology and researching industry trends. He has over ten years of experience in the project finance field. Since joining DBRS in 2015, Biao has led multiple rating assignments in Canada, the United States and Europe, with a focus on renewable and conventional power, oil & gas midstream and transportation projects. Some of his notable achievements include initiating the rating coverage for the two largest solar PV project bonds of $1.2 billion placed in the Canadian capital markets.
Prior to joining DBRS, he was a Vice President at MUFG Bank (Canada) and managed the bank’s corporate and project finance portfolio. Biao’s preceding role was a senior debt underwriter for Infrastructure Ontario's $9 billion infrastructure lending program for infrastructure and power projects. Before starting his career in the financial services industry, Biao worked as an engineer in the biomedical and technology sectors in both China and the United States. He is a CFA charterholder and holds a Bachelor of Engineering degree from the University of Electronic Science and Technology of China as well as a Master of Science in Finance degree from Brandeis University.
